Care, from the old English caru: grief, sorrow, burden of the mind.

Cura was the Roman goddess of care and creator of the first man, who she made from river mud. She was granted possession of him for as long as he was alive, but was forbidden from naming him after herself.

I took my grief and exhaustion to the river. I found Cura there - vengeful and angry on behalf of all the careworn women. She told me she wants us back. She wants to wash away our burdens.

Cura is angry was made during my DIY carer’s residency (2025). I used inherited photographic equipment and created these collages in-camera, in order to minimise my labour.
